How the Power Index worksv1

The Picklewire Power Index (PPI) is a transparent 0–100 form rating — a snapshot of how a player is doing right now, computed only from data we can source. It is recomputed daily and each day's value is saved so you can see the trend. It is deliberately not a skill rating or a betting line.

Form 60%

A recency-weighted average of recent tournament finishes (sourced results). A champion scores 100, runner-up/finalist 78, semifinalist 58, quarterfinalist 42, and lower placements scale down by where they finished in the field. Results decay with a 90-day half-life and drop off after a year, so recent form dominates.

Season 30%

The player's MLP season win percentage. When a player has no MLP record, Form takes its share of the weight.

Buzz 10%

How much sourced news the player has generated in the last 30 days — a small momentum nudge, capped so it can't dominate.

The honest fine print

  • A player needs at least some recent sourced results or an MLP record to be rated — otherwise we show “not yet rated” rather than a misleading number.
  • The trend chart starts accumulating the day we launched PPI; we don't fabricate past history.
  • Snapshots are taken once per day (UTC). PPI is form, not a prediction.
  • Every input is sourced — the same results and news shown elsewhere on Picklewire, with receipts.
